We did not sign up for or use the other tools here: what follows is read from their own public pages on the dates shown, with stated facts kept apart from marketing claims. How we review.

Good fit if

  • Kickresume, if you want unlimited free downloads in PDF or DOCX.
  • Kickresume, if you want tailoring at a level you choose, with a report of each change.
  • Rezi, if you want to pay once rather than subscribe: Lifetime is $149.
  • Rezi, if you want AI interview practice drawn from your resume and the job.

Look elsewhere if

  • Neither, if you want a full ATS score for free: Kickresume's checker is paid and Rezi's score is limited on the free plan.
  • Neither, if you want a job tracker at the centre of your search.
  • Neither, if you need refund terms that agree with each other: both have pages that conflict.

Two builders with different free plans

Rezi and Kickresume both build resumes and cover letters, score them and tailor them to a job description. The biggest difference is what you can take away without paying. Neither tool was used for this page; every line comes from the two companies’ own pages.

Free plans and exports

Kickresume’s free plan has 4 basic resume templates, 4 matching cover letter templates and 1 website template, with unlimited downloads as PDF or DOCX. It leaves out the AI Writer and the ATS checker and includes one tailoring. Its iOS and Android apps also export PDF or DOCX free.

Rezi’s free plan has 1 resume, 1 AI interview and 3 PDF downloads, with the Rezi Score and keyword targeting limited, and unlimited cover and resignation letters. Word export is Pro. No card is needed for either.

Scoring

Rezi’s score breaks the resume down section by section, and pasting a job description shows the keywords the resume is missing. Kickresume’s ATS checker runs more than 20 weighted checks of formatting, design, typefaces, structure and content; 75% and up counts as good. It is listed under the paid plans.

Tailoring

Kickresume rewrites the CV for a pasted job post at a level you choose, Conservative, Balanced or Turbo, and reports each change it made. Its page says the AI works only with information already in the resume. The free plan gets one tailoring. Rezi’s pages describe keyword targeting against a job description, limited on the free plan, but do not describe a separate rewrite step.

Extras

Rezi includes AI interview practice that draws questions from your resume and the job and scores your answers, a free Chrome extension that fills applications on Workday, Greenhouse and Lever while you press Submit, and a phone app that scores jobs from 0 to 100 against your resume. Kickresume has an interview question generator, personal website templates, and up to 180 days of free Premium for verified students and teachers.

Price and leaving

Kickresume is $19 a month, $27 every 3 months or $54 a year. Its plan card says $4.50 a month for the yearly plan and its comparison table $5, both for $54 a year. Subscriptions renew automatically, and you must cancel before the term ends. The pricing page offers a 14-day money-back guarantee; its terms, dated 11 January 2024, apply it once per user and otherwise call subscriptions non-returnable.

Rezi Pro is $29 a month and Lifetime is $149 once. The pricing page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee; its banner covers all plans and its FAQ names Pro and Lifetime. Rezi’s cancel page says a subscription ends as soon as it is cancelled, while its plans page says it runs to the end of the billing period. Rezi’s prices show $ with no code, and one help page shows pounds.

If you will search for months, Rezi’s Lifetime plan removes the renewals. If you want the files free, Kickresume gives them.
